BUSH SIGNS BORN ALIVE ACT New York City (August 6, 2002) The National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life commends President George W. Bush for signing the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. On Monday August 5, 2002, President Bush signed the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act that grants full legal rights to any child born, even during an abortion. "The issue of abortion divides Americans, no question about it. Yet today we stand on common ground…There is no right to destroy a child that has been born alive." President Bush said. "The Born – Alive Infants Protection Act is a step toward the day when every child is welcome in life and protected in law." The law passed by a unanimous vote in the Senate on July 18 and by a voice vote in the House of Representatives in March. |
